Real life laptop buying guide

Hii guys!! are you looking for a new laptop. can i ask you a question, how do you buy a new product. Do you buy it seeing your friends and collegues or family and THEIR satisfation. eg- your friend has bought a laptop with i7 processor,8gb ram and 1 TB HDD(1000 GB)  at 45000k or alright at 40k(on specials discounts). so only going by such specifications do you buy it ? obviously NO you should first determine YOUR requirements and look around new technology that is present if it fits in your budget. well today i'm gonna help you how to determine what are your REAL needs on the basis of technology, your profession, interests, ease of access etc. This article comprises of  3 parts:-

1. Buyer category
2. Essential features
3. How to buy safely

 so lets begin :

                                                  Buyer Category

1. Students- Students from varying fields require a different type of  machine. eg- computer engineering students need a good processor like i5(i7 could turn useless if not multitasking like dealing with 20-25 tabs at one time or many apps simultaneously). For mechanical student using softwares like Matlab will require faster memory(i'v researched on web that to run matlab like s/w its recommended to use faster storage than more RAM). SSD(solid state drive) could be the solution. for students like medical, fashion designing processor and ram does'nt matter much i3 could be sufficient with 4gigs of RAM. moreover if you require to carry your lappy with you all day long, you need the one with good battery backup and is quite light weighted i.e no more than 2.5 kg(2-2.'3' or '4' should be looked upon). it should have smaller screen(11'' is on really smaller size, you wont like to watch movies on it,you wont get the feel of having a laptop. well its my personal view.)anything b/w "13" to 15.6'' is fine. you would like to play games too as a student you are not only going to study, get a laptop with 2gb dedicated graphic card.

2. Bussiness purpose -  For Bussiness purpose you should look something with good baterry backup and a good keyboard to type on. 4/8gb ram with i7/i5 processor depending on your field of bussiness. A backlit keyboard is an added feature that helps in a dark room so if you work in a place where lights are turned off say theater or drama production you need a backlit keyboard. this is not limited to above eg only you can use it for presentation purposes etc in offices or when you are buying a personal laptop you might need to turn off lthe light to accomodate your roommatates but need to do an important work at night this feature might help you a lot. full size keyboard with numeric keyboard is good option.

3. Everyday use/Entertainment - For this scenario you dont need something very special from inside, outside beauty would be better option to invest upon as you wont demand much from your  laptop. a pentium quadcore will also work good in cojunction with 4 gb ram(its  pretty much a standard now, dont go for anything less than this). take 15.6'' and above  screen for entertainment as watching movies on a wider screen is better.Go for full HD display(1080x1920) , good speakers and excellent build quality. 4k is excellent but it would take a toll on battery backup. More storage space for data .

4. Gamers , Video editors & Animation Proffesional - Gamers and other such graphic intensive proffesionals need a strong graphic card and a decent processor. 2gb and above dedicated graphic card is a requirement. for video editord good processor is a better option. good amount of RAM is required for such tasks,8 gb and above is good. i7 or i5 processor is good. for strong 3D gaming
i suggest go for i7 or AMD A8 or A10 processors.

                                           Essential Features

1. Processor - For multitasking and complex calculations go for intel and for graphics oriented go for AMD. the integrated graphic by AMD are better than that of intels. but there are three varients in intel-i3,i5,i7. ideally i3<i5<i7, but your needs determine your requirements. the decision should be made after giving a good thought as this part is not upgradable. i5 5th gen has better graphics and effecient power cosumption and5-10% better processing speed as compared to 4th gen i5. i5 is best bet right now.

2. RAM - RAM  is an essential feature that determines snappiness(lagfree) in operating. more RAM, more snappiness and easyness. well amount of Ram depends upon your requirements. So if you are going to run heavy s/w or games you'll need a a good amount of RAM say 8 gb but 12 or 16 gb is quite not required for light gaming ,like cricket 2015 or counter strike but might be require if you gonna run gta 5 on highest graphics level though role of graphic card is more in this. you can always upgrade it and they are quite cheaper now.

3. Graphic card - Graphics provide fun and entertainment. A dedicated graphic card is way better than an integrated graphic card although some laptops with i5 5th gen(Broadwell) with u5500 integrated graphics provide decent gaming performance. you cant upgrade it though . 2gb dedicated graphic card is sufficient for gaming(1gb might also be ok for light games). A dedicated graphic card has its own processor and memory so it does'nt affect RAM and CPU.

4. Storage - More storage means more space to store your data. more movies, files&  s/w. there are three ypes of storages now SSD(solid state drive), SSHD(Solid state hybrid drive) & HDD. An SSd provides very quick response time. The speed difference between commonly used HDD(Hard disk drive-5400rpm) and SSD in booting is around 50-60sec or more, also depending on processor.  your application will load much much faster and downloading will also be fast. They are the storage technology of present and future. the down side is they are smaller in capacity and  are rightnow expensive. SSHD are mix of both speed of an SSD and capacity of HDD at much affordable price. these are available as hdd with flash content. HDD will provide more capacity in less price but is way slower than ssd or even SSHD. you can even use RAM-DISK for loading some apps faster but you need to do quite a few tweaks and you need RAM more than 4gb as the space you allocate for RAM-DISK will not be available for OS. (i'm a big fan of SSD or SSHD !!! again a personal view).you can use external hard drive for storage also.

6. Display - Display matters a lot whole laptop experience depends on viewing, go to store and check the colors(if they are fine or washed out and their brighness etc). full HD screen is good but it may eat away battery but that fine if you are'nt going to carry much.

7. keyboard-A good Keyboard is very important. you should buy a laptop with soft keys and responsive one. would be better if you get full sized numeric keypad and if you can get  backlit keyboard it is a bonous.

8. Touchpad - A touch pad should be wide and soft with responsive hand surfing and and easy mouse button click. this part of lappy cant be ignored.

How to buy safely(online or offline) !!

My advice to buy a laptop is :-

1. Do a research on internet and short list some of them.
2. Do a little market research and ask for bargain.
3. Should we buy a laptop online ? - a big question
to answer this, i would say see the item online, note the model no & go to the store and test it yourself to know its user friendliness. then if you can get it from store on good price BUY IT!! else go back to the internet and order it online. would be better to buy it from official site than e-commerce sites though there might not be manuy offers, but it is safer.
